About

Kendei Empowerment Foundation (KEF)

Kendei Empowerment Foundation (KEF) Microfinance is a community-based financial initiative owned and operated by God’s Glory Free Pentecostal Church, located in the Paynesville Joe Bar Community, Liberia. Established in April 2005, KEF began as a compassionate response to help women rebuild their lives and businesses in the aftermath of Liberia’s civil crisis.

Born out of a vision by Pastor Elizabeth M. Sahr and supported by Elder Dr. Matthias Korpu, KEF was founded on the principle of empowering vulnerable women through microloans. With an initial $5,000 donation from the McGinness family in the United States, 33 women were the first beneficiaries of the KEF microloan program. Over the years, this initiative has grown into a fully-fledged Microfinance Institution, now serving over 2,700 clients—both women and men.

From humble beginnings, KEF Microfinance has grown into a trusted institution with a portfolio exceeding $438,000 as of December 2024. This growth reflects not only the initial generosity of donors but also the commitment and savings of the clients we serve. Throughout our journey, we have been supported by a range of local and international partners, including churches, families, and organizations committed to community transformation.
